A Super Bowl Party with Gospel Intentionality

This past week we preached on mission. One of the things we’re constantly challenging ourselves with is doing the things we already do with gospel intentionality. How can we be infusing gospel, mission, and community into the regular pulse of our lives? Anyway, whenever this happens, we want to celebrate it. Here’s a post from Jon & Shelley who lead a Soul Care group in Center City and their experience hosting a Super Bowl Party.

We had a total of 19 people show up to our super bowl party at our place. Nearly everyone we invited came over showing that people desired “community” even after disclosing that this was a bible study group. We potentially could have invited more people but were limited only by space. We had a good, enjoyable time over food and the game. Everyone mingled with each other and some new acquaintances even exchanged phone numbers and set up additional get-togethers. What was most surprising to me (truly revealing the work of the Holy Spirit) was that even though there was no explicit discussion of the gospel, 2 of the attendees at the party showed up to our worship service for the first time the following Sunday. What a blessing!  We hope to see more of God’s work as we continue to engage the community in the days to come.

In Christ,
Jon & Shelley
