Battling the Envious Soul

The preached word has this unexplainable way of wounding you (conviction of sin) and healing (repentance and faith in the gospel) you at the same time. The best I can compare it to is a surgeon’s scalpel which at once wounds (which apart from modern technology would be incredibly painful), and at the same time heals (removing some diseased growth which otherwise would kill you). So the aim of every preacher is to simultaneously wound and heal. And every wise listener desires the same, to be wounded and healed. God did both to me as I heard this sermon from our brother Matt Kruse. He recently preached on envy at an Acts 29 Regional gathering up in Boston. Though Matt preaches here to an audience of church planters, there is plenty of application whatever your particular calling or vocation in life. There were a number of people that I wanted to share this good word with, but as that list kept growing, I decided to post it here for the benefit of us all.

By God’s grace, be wounded. And be healed.
