I don’t know how to measure it, quantify it, or even explain it – but this past Sunday’s service was special. If you were there, did you feel that too? From the opening song, you could sense the presence of God. We know He’s with us every Sunday. We know it by faith. It’s grace when you can feel it too. The singing was passionate, and earnest, and loud. In terms of the preaching, I woke up at 5am to pray and go over the sermon. By 6:45, I still couldn’t get past the introduction. It was lousy. I didn’t know how to fix it. By 8:30, I had concluded that this week would be a dud and I would just try to do better next time. In our pre-service prayer time, I asked God for greater confidence in His word as I had little confidence in the sermon. Yet as I preached, I could sense that God was using his Word and making it connect. I still don’t think it was a great sermon. But I know it had great effect. It’s strange how that happens. Communion was sweet. Responding in song was joyful. I could have kept singing On Christ the solid rock I stand all day. We even clapped. Spontaneously. In rhythm! Sunday was special. I don’t know how or why. It can’t be manufactured or produced. But I’m grateful and eager to receive all that God has for us.
Sunday was Special
