What is Baptism?
Think about a wedding ring for a second. A wedding ring is a symbol of marriage. It is not marriage in itself, but powerfully points to marriage. It is a sign signifying vows, commitments, promises, love, and all the other things that make up marriage.
So it is with baptism. Baptism is not the gospel in itself, but powerfully points to the gospel or good news of Jesus Christ. Christians believe the good news is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and resurrected from death as Lord of all. When a Christian is baptized and submerged under the water, it points to how we are united with Christ in His death and burial. All our sins have been washed away and our old lives are dead and buried. When a Christian rises out of the water, it points to how we are united with Christ in His resurrection. We have new lives in Him!
Perhaps now you can see why we get excited about celebrating baptism!
On Sunday, we will worship at Seven Mile Road Church at 10am. We’ll hear from the men and women who are getting baptized and how Jesus is changing their lives. Then we’ll get into our cars, drive over to Neshaminy State Park and celebrate baptism followed by food and fun for all. It’s one of the best Sundays of the year and we’d love for you to join us.
See you Sunday!
