By BTC Mission Team: We spent our day today at our second medical clinic in the heart of the Red Light district – this time in an area called Kamatipura (KMP as they refer to it here). Our team was down to 7 people, since the others have already left.
As we got out of the van which transported us to the area, we saw the tent that the BTC volunteers had set up for our clinic. Again, it was set up in the middle of a narrow street, which was lined with brothels and homes that belonged to really poor people on the other side. Young children roamed the streets. There were a few women sitting on the stoops of these ‘houses’. The BTC volunteers told us that most of the women would only be up around 12 noon since they had been up all night. Most of us have gotten somehow used to seeing all of this to by now (if that’s possible). Even so, the sight was extremely overwhelming.
In the midst of all this, one of the shopkeepers was testing his sound system. Not quite sure how this happened, but in the middle of this place, guess what we heard blaring through the sound system? Loud and clear we heard a song by Chris Tomlin, “Our God is greater, our God is stronger, our God is higher than any other. Our God is healer, awesome in power…and if our God is for us, who can ever stop us, and if our God is with us, who can stand against us…” And just as quickly as the song started, it ended.
What a way to start our day. What an awesome reminder in the midst of such despair! Indeed, how great is our God!!!”
