As we’ve been going through this MORE sermon series, I’ve had a lot of songs come to mind during the sermons. We wanted to compile a playlist that might help you want more love for God, his word, his people, and his presence.
The first song I thought of was Yearn by Shane and Shane. It’s a song for those of us that find we don’t want God as much as we should. We want more of ourselves. I love the lines:
“Your joy is mine
Yet why am I fine?
With all my singing and bringing grain
In light of Him”
Jesus came to give us an abundant life as a life marked by giving ourselves to enjoying and displaying his glory. But so often we settle for enjoying our own little pleasures and promoting our little glories. To quote C.S. Lewis, “If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
