As we continue The Gospel According to Exodus, this week we preached Crossing the Sea from Exodus 14. We are nearing the end of this first section of Exodus. Here are some questions for you and/or your SoulCare Community to consider in applying the text.
1. God does not lead the people directly out of Egypt, “although that was near” (Ex. 13:17), but instead takes them around the wilderness and to the Red Sea. Where in your life do you feel like God is leading you along the ‘longer route’? How are you doing with that?
2. Israel is getting out of Egypt but getting Egypt out of Israel will take much longer. Why do you think returning to Egypt recurringly seemed like a better option? How do you relate with this?
3. When asked if a Christian, people will often say, “I’m trying.” How is this a misunderstanding of Christianity? How does the crossing of the Red Sea teach us that salvation has nothing to do with ‘trying’? Why is this so hard for us to consistently believe?
4. How does Moses function as a mediator (Ex. 14:15)? How is Jesus the better and true Mediator (1 Tim. 2:5)?
