As the gospel takes root in us, it not only changes our hearts, but it also practically affects the way we live. The way we handle our money, what we do with our time, how we treat those around us. At Seven Mile Road, we are committed to preaching what is in accordance with the sound words of Jesus Christ (1 Tim 6:3). Doctrine matters. Theology matters. We toil and sweat over it. But what good is any of it if we live as though it makes no difference? As we continue our series, Paul asks the question: how are we treating our families? Our moms and dads? Do we forsake them, yet turn around and care for others? Do we shift our responsibilities over to the church, when we are capable of taking care of those at home, leaving the church unable to care for those who are truly in need? This was what the church in Ephesus was guilty of, and Paul was calling them out on it. Hear the sermon here.
This week, we’ll be preaching from 1 Timothy 6:2-10. Paul addresses the false teachers of Ephesus who use godliness and religion as a means of financial gain. And as he does that, he will draw out the false allure that money offers.
