This Saturday, my wife and I got to head out of town for some much needed time away. Before we left, I gave Brett (our administrative assistant) a long list of tasks that needed to be completed at the church facilities. And while we were away, about 15 folks from Seven Mile Road gave up their morning and afternoon to help complete these tasks. They pulled weeds, bagged trash, moved a 400 lb. metal tank, planted flowers, laid down flooring, and organized the heck out of the church facilities. We’ve had these types of massive clean-up days in the past and many, many of you have given your time.
I started to think about all the other folks that I work with at Seven Mile Road who give of their time so readily. Without pay. Cheerfully. Sacrificially.
Every week, we have members of SMR sit behind a sound booth running the audio and video. Every week, the band spends hours – sometimes grueling midnight hours dealing with me – practicing for music for the upcoming Sunday. Then there are other ministries that happen at SMR that I know little about – such as Sunday school, nursery, the welcome team and hospitality, meal train, administration, gatherings for prayer, folks who help with Sunday morning tasks – the list goes on.
I just wanted to say ‘thank you’ to all those who serve Seven Mile Road in many ways that sometimes go unnoticed and under appreciated. Your service allows Seven Mile Road to function, to proclaim the gospel, and to be a light in the communities we live in. Your service reflects the heart of Jesus who made himself lowly for our sake and who served us. Your service is an extension of a God who seeks to make all things beautiful, of a God who is creative, and of a God who is generous.
May the gospel compel us to continue serving God and his church so that many might come to know Jesus in and around Philadelphia. Thank you Seven Mile Roaders!
